Somebody asked me how Consultation Lake got its name. I have been digging on that funky internet thing and haven't been able to find anything yet. Does anybody know the history and naming background of the Consultation lake?

Is there a story behind the Boyscout and Girlscout lakes naming? or is it just an obvious nod in their direction?

Ref: "Place Names of the Sierra Nevada From Abbot to Zumwalt" by Peter Browning.

Consultation Lake (3,560 m.-over 11,760') According to a BGN (US Board on Geographic Names) decision (1937-38) the lake was named about 1904 when the men who laid out the first trail to the summit of Mt Whitney from the east "consulted" here as to which direction the trail should take. However, it seems to have been named by A.W.de la Cour Carroll and party on August 28, 1895--with no reason given why they named it thus. (Sierra Club Bulletin 1 # 7, Jan. 1896: 291.)
