Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Any late-breaking trip reports?

I'm heading up late Friday and would love to hear about conditions. Specifically, I'd like to know if the 'little bit of ice' at the cables (reported a week ago or more) is still there, or is an issue. I'd love to leave my crampons behind, but am extra-careful about that kind of thing.

My friend Dan and I went up the switchbacks from Trail Camp to Trail Crest yesterday morning (Thursday) about 6:30. The ice is decidedly overrated, and one can skirt it with no problem. The top traverse/slog was a little windy, but plenty of sun. Have a good trip.
