I don’t know if this has been discussed here before (a search didn’t get any hits), but I was wondering if anyone has ever seen any rattlers in the Whitney area (around or above the Portal)?

I’ve seen plenty of rattlers down low at the different Sierra desert trail heads, but never in the Portal area.

I’m curious after encountering a rattler along the Mt Baldy Devil Backbone trail yesterday; just above the catwalk traverse (at almost 9000’). I’ve never seen a rattler that high on Baldy before. Also, some people said they saw another one along the trail at base of Harwood (I didn’t see that one).

Just curious.....

No rattler sightings by me except at Lone Pine Campground at 5,000 feet.

Journey well...
