Hi,

I was just wondering if there is any insurance out there for emegencies - real case- not self inflicted. I know the spot gps tracker offers one type. Any comments, thanks

I have IHI Buja insurance. It covers everything and is not very expesnsive. The first year costs the most (based on age - mine was about $180) and the renewals are cheaper (mine was $132).

One warning: If a single trip lasts more than 30 days you have to buy extention coverage.

I think my Alpine Club membership includes evac insurance

read the fine print: many policies only provide coverage for you once you return to the trailhead - not real backcountry coverage.

Here is the address to IHI Buja www.ihi.com

They cover US and international travel. Check out the Annual Travel section. They have a coverage list.

I believe they will cover the cost of getting you off the mounatin (i.e., mule, helicopter) but I do not know how they handle if there is not a system already in place. You can send them an e-mail and ask.

I noticed they are offerring a 5% discount on Annual Travel insurance.

Emergency Assistance Plus - $89/year (individual); a little more for family coverage. 24/7/365 coverage anywhere in the world.
