Original plan with daughter was onion valley-jmt south- Whitney - cottonwood lakes via NAP. Been checking every source I can find, even called the wilderness office for seki and talked with one of the rangers. Last report they had was forester pass, icy and slick on north side, Tyndall, wright creeks not doable where the trail crosses and from Richard P photos still look like a cornice on NAP. Since we had planned a point to point don’t want to get 30 miles down the trail then have to backtrack then hitchhike back to get the car in cottonwood. Plan B is now an and back now, see how the conditions are, try for Whitney but not going to put us in a high risk situation in the water crossing. Bringing all the toys, axes, crampons and micro spikes. Either way it’s going to be a hoot, would like to place an order now for 2 bacon cheeseburgers, fries for Tuesday August 1st. Will post a trip report at the end.
