Flew my airplane from PA to Inyokern, arrived yesterday with a quick tour over Horseshoe Meadow, Big Whitney, Siberian Outpost and Little Whitney. Further proof that Mother Nature is going to do whatever the hell she wants.
Snow conditions don't make sense. Big Whitney and trail from there to Cottonwood Pass is clear, as is entire area to the south. Siberian Outpost trail has snow and Siberian Outpost itself over 75% snow-covered, but Soldier Lakes clear.
Boreal Plateau is snow covered and Funston Lake still frozen. Rocky Basin Lakes clear. Rock Creek is clear but still snow on PCT south. Didn't go north but it looked like snow over Guyot into Crabtree as well as trail from New Army to Rock Creek.
Been doing this for 35 years and have never seen such lingering, random conditions. Good news is snow conditions will continue to get better. Not sure of the stream crossings.
