Good video.....

I saw this on Youtube, and thought I would share.

7-day mountaineering/backpacking trip to Eastern Sierra in April 2023 after a record-snow winter. Route: Shepherd Pass trail - John Muir Trail - Arctic Lake - Whitney-Russel Pass - Whitney Portal.

Paul,

Thanks for sharing this interesting video.

I noted that these hikers were enjoying Evans Williams Bourbon on the summit of Tyndall. Do you think that their original intent was to drink it on the top of William(son), but that from Shepherd Pass the direct route up Tyndall was just too inviting?

Thanks, Paul. Enjoyed the video.

Recently I saw a photo of Orland Bartholomew approaching the Summit of Tyndall in mid January of 1929, as a storm approached. After topping out, he returned back down the other side of the Crest to rejoin the JMT and continued on to exit at Yosemite Valley! Earlier in this outing, he did side trips up Langley and Whitney.

Jim,

BTW, I was just talking to Alexa at the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce, and it appears the Whitney Portal Road is now open. Getting up the Road is the first step in getting to the Family Campground/Portal Store/TH for Memorial Day. Starting out this Season, I am doing one step at a time.

Jim I know that when you drive down from Northern California, you ususally stop by the Portal. I'll be up there, starting Friday, May 26th. Stop by.... Also, I may have an extra campsite (currently have 3 at the Portal). One is extra. But won't know for sure the week of.

Paul,

IF all goes well, my plan is to get to Whitney Portal late Saturday and spend a couple of nights. I already have a place to stay, but thanks for the possible campsite opening. I will look for you and sharing experiences/thoughts. Maybe we will see some familiar faces up at the Store!

Last October, Bob Wagner and his wife told me they expected to return as Camp Hosts for 2023. I hope so, as they will be very helpful if the opening of the Campground gets off to a rough start because of the conditions.

Remember them well. Good hosts!!!

And then there is Dallas, all bark, but playful and easy going.

I usually stop at Indian Wells for a 6 pack for them. Will do so this year.
