RP & Shin-san, I'll try to link up with you 2-uber dudes in 2 weeks on May 7th. I'll bring some extra Trader Joe treats cool grin

Rick, Bear Canyon is a great SoCal hike (for Whitney training or other wise). I hope to see you up there on Sat. I'm the ol’ bald "experienced" hiker lacking an ice axe and crampons, but wearing shorts & trail runners....hehe! Wishing you a great Rainier trip cool I still need to get up that big ol’ volcano….maybe this summer!

Cheers,
Rick Graham

Hi Rick,
Sorry, I couldn't come out on Thursday night. I had to take care of my back for Saturday hike with "Richard the animal" from high desert.

I love to have you as "LEAD" hiker to keep Richard in motion for 6 peak loop hike on 7th of May.
My old body won't last long if Richard keep on pushing me from behind. Richard didn't take any breaks on Bear canyon trail. "Normal" hiker takes 2-3 short breaks on the trail.
Hope to see you on 7th.

Shin
P.S. When my back get better,I'll be there on Thursday.

Want to go up and do it as a day-climb? The other alternative is to head up for a few days any place but the Standard Route up to Muir Camp and the DC Route. (Too many people; too many guides who don't think Independents have a right to be up there.)

Maybe we can get GM and WtG to come along for the fun.

Maybe we can get an invitation to the Palace (MC)?

We'll have to talk about this in about a week. July is usually the best time for Rainier (LONG days, warmer, more stable weather). Baker, Adams, etc, as warm-ups? A week? Fly? Drive?

Hey Everyone - where have you all been?

Just kidding, Larry went up last week and "told" me all about the snow conditions, and "why" you ask didn't I go with him?

Well, four weeks ago I took a header down some steps boarding a dive boat with 60 lbs of SCUBA gear on my back - AND I broke my leg! RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im planning on doing a loop of the ski hut trail this sunday, is there still a bunch of snow on the east side of that south ridge? i'm planning on no crampons - since i will be with a group of newbies that don't have any, and wouldn't know how to use them if they did. let me know what you guys think.

thanks,
john

Ouch! Cindy. Take care of that leg...

We didn't use crampons, but there were some people who did. It really depends on what you're comfortable with. I think if you stay on track, you should be fine without gear. (Just don't head up too early if you see the temps will drop below freezing.)

A, B, C, Ryann & Norm will be heading up it 1st week in July - whoot!

Hey Shin,

Hope your back get's better, and your wife makes a speedy recovery. I'll be at the gym next Thur again with Rick and Ryan. I might go Tuesday as well.

I'm doing Baldy today with Patrick, 1st time on the mountain since I've fallen in love with Rock. We'll see if I can break a record today for slowest ascent.
See you soon....

Hi son "Yeti",
I deserve a short break from my duties at home. I'll join with you a few hours at Gym next Thursday.

I am getting old. All my body parts shows wear and tear now.

Please ask Patrick to take you down to the north face of Mt. Baldy someday. Have a fun and safe day.

Shin

Hey Shin - If only other "old" people were as active as you, they'd be a lot healthier and happier smile

A few aches and pains are well worth the fredoom of the hills smile

Spent a lot of time thinking about Shin and his wife on a LONG day yesterday...

- Hoping things go well for you and Kazuko.

- Wishing I could have my young bones and muscles back...

Jeff, I could use an easy day. Wish I had read this yesterday. I really do hate wasting time watching TV on a day off.

TR for bear canyon to old baldy summit to baldy summit to ski hut and down to manker flats trailhead. BRR>... Windy on the summits. My pack thermo read 40 degrees but I don't think it reflects wind chill. Hit solid snow about .5 mile past the narrows, used crampons to both summits and back down to the the west bowl trail. Most of the snow could be avoided back to the ski hut.. trail through the trees from the ridge top mostly clear. I think winter is over... Other than the wind on top it
was a beautiful day.
